Who should attend?
All players league age 8 - 12 are encouraged to attend. If a player does not tryout, they will be placed in the lowest division for their age but no lower than the division they played in last year and will be chosen anonymously via a "hat pick" (name picked out of a hat) toward the end of the draft (Majors, Minor AAA, Minor AA only).
If your player is league age 7 and wants to try out for AA Minors, s/he should attend. Neither players younger than league age 7 nor those league age 13 will be evaluated.
What to Expect:
Players are put through a series of stations that have them demonstrate their ability to hit, catch, throw, and run. Team managers and league officials observe and score each player based upon their assessment of the player's skills and abilities.
For our Majors, Minor AAA, and Minor AA divisions, only players that demonstrate the ability to play at each respective level are chosen. Major managers choose first, then AAA managers, then AA managers.
What to Wear and Bring:
Please wear baseball attire, and bring your glove and bat. Tennis shoes only: we will be indoors, so cleats won't work.
Announcing 50/70 Intermediate Division for League Age 13 Players
Dear Players Who Are League Age 13,
Novato South is pleased to announce that we will be fielding an Intermediate (50/70) team for the 2019 season. The program will be available for all league age 13 players in 2019 (those born between 9/1/2005 and 8/31/2006).
The division, the first new program in Little League since 1999, bridges the transition from Little League (46/60) to Babe Ruth Baseball on a full-size field (60/90). It is a league for 13 year-olds whose advanced skills permit rules that are closer to conventional baseball, such as leading off bases, pickoff attempts, etc.
In the traditional Little League (Majors) Division, a runner cannot leave the base until the pitched ball reaches the batter, so pickoffs are not part of the game at that level. In addition, Intermediate (50/70) Baseball Division games will be played on a field that is not quite as large as a conventional diamond, but bigger than the traditional Little League field.
Intermediate Baseball field dimensions are, as the name implies, between those of the traditional Little League diamond and a standard baseball diamond. For the Little League Intermediate Baseball Division, there is a pitching distance of 50 feet. The distance between bases is 70 feet. The recommended range of distance, during regular season, from home plate to the outfield fence is 200 to 275 feet.
Games will be played against local teams at other Marin County 50/70 fields. No games will played in Novato. Most Games will be played on Sunday's. All Practices will be held at Hamann field, and depending on field availability, twice a week
Upon conclusion of the regular season, a Tournament structure for the Intermediate Baseball Division has been developed, with play ending in a World Series each year.
Registration for the 2019 Spring Season is now open.
We're very pleased to bring back our very popular Winter Clinics to help our players get ready for Tryouts, the Spring Season, and beyond!
This year, we will offer three clinics:
1) Our popular General Skills clinic (beginning November 10th)
2) Pitching-focused clinic (beginning December 3rd / 5th)
3) Hitting-focused clinic (beginning January 14th)
There are distinct clinics designed for Minors (8 to 10-year-old players) and Majors (10 to 12-year-old players). 10-year-old players must have played in Minor AAA in the Spring season to be eligible for the Majors program.
The pitching and hitting-focused clinics will be taught by former MLB player Charles Scott.
For each clinic, there will be 1.5 hours of instruction on six days for a total fee of $150 per clinic. That works out to $25 per 1.5 hour session.Normally, a one-hour session with a professional trainer would be $180 or more per hour!
